Lunderston Bay Beach Clean

Beach Clean at Lunderston Bay 2023

Lunderston Bay Beach Clean 2023

On Thursday 17th August 2023, Amey South-West Trunk Roads in collaboration with Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, hosted a beach clean at Lunderston Bay in Gourock. The event was attended by 20 Amey employees from across the South-West network. As part of our commitment to support the communities that we live and work in, Amey have been hosting beach cleans up and down Scotland. Improperly discared litter is something that has a negative impact on the roads we maintain, not only is it a blight on the environment but is costly and dangerous to uplift, putting our operatives’ lives at risk.

Clyde Muirshiel is Scotland’s Largest Regional Park and welcomes over 700,000 visitors a year from Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, and beyond. The Trust maintains 108 square miles of scenic Scottish countryside to enjoy a walk, a run or a cycle. To support the event, the Trust provided litter pickers on the day and disposed of all litter that was collected.

The team worked hard and uplifted an impressive 50 bags of litter from the beach.Among the haul was a full drum of oil and a number of toys, the latter of which were given to the Clyde Muirshiel Rangers to be put in lost property.

The Marine Conservation Society’s #GreatBritishBeachClean is taking place in September, encouraging citizen science where litter data collected on beach cleans drives conservation work, raises awareness to campaign for change, and feeds into the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC).
