Troqueer Primary School Memorial Garden

Memorial Garden at Troqueer Primary School

Troqueer Primary School Memorial Garden

On Thursday 2nd November 2023, members of the Amey South-West Trunk Roads team were honoured to attend Troqueer Primary School’s unveiling of their new memorial garden. This garden was created in memory of pupil Theia Rose McKie, who sadly passed away in 2021.

Following much discussion with staff, Theia’s classmates and family decided to honour Theia by installing a Health and Wellbeing Memorial Garden. We assisted by helping the primary school clear away slabs, bushes, weeds, and unwanted rubble from the area, preparing the ground for construction.

The new Health and Wellbeing Garden includes a large gazebo, a Noah’s Arbour, picnic benches, a bird bath, and wooden flower beds. Within the flower beds, climbing plants such as honeysuckle and clematis were planted, as well as pink roses in honour of Theia’s middle name and favourite colour. Theia’s best friends drew ballet dancers in Theia’s favourite colours, which were then prepared for outdoor use and now decorate the fence of the garden.

All present and future pupils at Troqueer Primary School will be able to use the different areas of the garden to take part in the activities that Theia loved doing, such as reading, arts and crafts, and circle time.

Mrs Nancy Torbett, Headmaster, said: “We are so grateful to Jessica Masterton and Amey for all their help in honouring Theia. We could not have accomplished this without their help.”

Troqueer Primary School wish to extend thanks to our suppliers who donated their time and energy to help our team clear and re-establish the area: J&J Curries, Breedon, Grange Quarry, Rembrand Timber, and AMD Contract Services.
