M8 Junctions 23 &24 | Footbridge Refurbishments

Scheme Summary

Scheduled:
16-20 September 2024
Summary:
Footbridge Refurbishments

IN-SITU FOOTBRIDGE REFURBISHMENTS ON M8 EASTBOUND AT JUNCTIONS 23 AND 24 CONTINUE FROM MONDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are continuing with the essential refurbishments of the Cornwall Street and Kirkwood Street footbridges that span the eastbound M8 between Junctions 21 and 23 (Scotland Street and Dumbreck), south-west of Glasgow City Centre. Five suspended spans of the footbridges have been removed with refurbishments of the remaining in-situ spans continuing from Monday 16th September until Friday 20th September 2024.

This work will require overnight lane closures on the eastbound M8 carriageway, and overnight closures of the on-slips at both Junctions 23 and 24 between the hours of 10pm and 6am each night. Traffic will be diverted as follows:

Traffic wishing to use the M8 Junction 24 eastbound on-slip will be diverted via Helen Street, Edmiston Drive, Dumbreck Road and Junction 1 of the Northbound M77, where they will be able to re-join the M8 eastbound.

Traffic wishing to use the M8 Junction 23 eastbound on-slip will be diverted via Dumbreck Road and Junction 1 of the Northbound M77, where they will be able to re-join the M8 eastbound.

A programme of maintenance is required to ensure these 50-year-old structures continue to operate safely and efficiently and full details of the project are available here

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Glasgow City Council, and other key stakeholders

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
